This new publication from the ABA Center for Professional Responsibility and Judicial Division presents an authoritative and practical analysis of the judicial ethics rules and the cases, ethics opinions, and other legal authorities essential to understanding them. The book follows the successful style of the Annotated Model Rules of Professional Conduct and builds upon the historical work presented in the Reporter's Notes to Code of Judicial Conduct by E. Wayne Thode in 1973 and The Development of the ABA Judicial Code by Lisa L. Milord in 1992.
Comprehensive and Authoritative
The Model Code of Judicial Conduct is intended to establish standards for ethical conduct of judges, provide guidance to judges and candidates for judicial office and provide structure for regulating conduct through disciplinary agencies. It consists of broad statements called Canons, specific rules set forth in Sections under each Canon, a Terminology Section, an Application Section and Commentary. The text of the Canons and the Sections, including the Terminology and Application Sections, is authoritative.
Each chapter includes a Canon and its commentary and a detailed discussion of the Canon¿s background, meaning, application and interpretation. The book includes citations to nearly 1000 cases, hundreds of ethics opinions and numerous law review articles, making it a definitive examination of the current state of judicial ethics.
